What is a Mod?

In video games, the term MOD is short for “modification” and refers to an alteration that changes aspects of a game in the way it looks or behaves. There are different types of mods, ranging from small changes and tweaks to complete overhauls.

Not be confused with the 1958 Mod Subculture movement.

House & Mods?

If my house project were a video game, then small improvements would be add-ons, repairs would be patches, decoration and furnishing might be art mods and changing the whole living space would be a home overhaul. All mods have a similar lifecycle: plan and design in CAD, graphical animation for testing, setting of milestones, implementation, roll-out and distribution (blog and videos).

Before you start your own mod, check out these 4 tips!

INSPIRATION

Gather ideas, research and make your own plan fitting your needs and wishes.

Check local regulations and required permits. And try not to disturb your neighbors.

BEST PRICE

Compare prices and delivery costs. Evaluate your options but don’t forget quality.

SAFETY

Invest in good safety equipment and consider having a liability and accident insurance.

CAD it into reality

I bring mods home by DIYing. As a new homeowner, I quickly got frustrated with no-show and overpriced contractors. I filled binders with bills and still didn’t get the results I expected and as fast as I needed. That’s when I decided to throw myself out there! I had no idea if we’d succeed but we had no choice. It turned out better than I expected. Today, I never even think about hiring somebody for something. On contrary, I get all excited to do it by myself!

Below are some of the work we do inside and outside. We get it done! Every time somebody asks me “can you do it?”, I answer “I can always try”. Because that’s all it takes! Once you try, you realize it’s definitely possible, then you go a step further and, after that, you are running the races and winning.

So, if you are just a guy, a small girl – or even a cat -, believe in yourself, experiment with your talents, develop your skills, design your own mod and transform your way of living!

  1. Great stuff! How did you do it?

    • Nice to hear you like it. 🙂 To create mods, I used a CAD software called Archicad. It is such a powerful tool to model and simulate architecture projects in 3D! I couldn’t mod it without it.
